Local Area

Food and drink

Bakers, a butcher and a small grocery shop are in the next village (2.5km). There are large supermarkets fifteen minutes' drive away to supply all your other food and drink requirements. There are a range of markets in the area, and nearby farms selling specialist products such as organic bread, goats cheese and fresh milk.

We are located on the edge of the Cognac region, an hour from the town itself. In addition the area is known for it's Pineau, a fortified wine (try it chilled!). There is a vineyard a short drive away for local wine.  Our neighbouring town has two bars/cafes, and there is a choice of restaurants within reasonable driving distance.

Activities

The Charente and surrounding area are mostly quiet French countryside. Swimming in local lakes, canoeing on the River Charente, cycling, walking and other activities are possible close to the property. For those seeking more adventurous pursuits there is a large water park at Saint-Yrieix-sur-Charente or an energetic 'VeloRail' near Confolens.

Attractions

The surrounding area has a wide range of options for a day out, from exploring old cites and historical sites, a trip to the beach, or a visit to a theme or animal park. We would be happy to help you with advice and information.

The Charente and surrounding area contain a wealth of pleasant cities to explore. There are smaller, picturesque villages nearby, such as Tusson, Verteuil and Nanteuil-en-Vallee, for a quiet stroll and a coffee or ice cream.

The thrilling multimedia Futuroscope park is an hour away for an unforgettable experience. Sightly closer, the Valley of the Monkeys is a very popular family day out. Or get close to some big reptiles at Planet of the Crocodiles in Civaux.

Beaches and the coast

It is possible to reach the coast in about an hour and a half for a day drip to some of France's west coast beaches.
